Renovate and Repair Loans

Available through the Erie Redevelopment Authority

If you're a homeowner in the City of Erie this opportunity might be available to you.  Erie residents who meet income guidelines have a new program to help finance home repairs.

The Redevelopment Authority says that it will administer the Renovate and Repair Home Loan Program offered through the Pennsylvania Housing Finance Agency.

The money can repair items that are affecting the home's basic livability, health, accessibility or to correct code violations. 

Fuhrman's Cider Mill

Closer to rebuilding

Millcreek Zoning Board approved a zoning variance to allow Fuhrman's Cider Mill & Bakery to rebuild on the property. 

Several residents spoke in favor of the variance.

The next step is presenting site plans to the township's land development and planning boards for further approvals. Final approval rests with the township's Board of Supervisors.

FBI's mortgage fraud case

3 more indicted

U.S. Attorney Mary Beth Buchanan announced today that conspiracy, mail fraud and money laundering indictments were handed down against Gregory M. Finney, 34, of Erie; Francis R. Conti, 41, of Waterford; and Keith A. Rice, 49, of Harborcreek Township.

2 others have already been charged.  Robert L. Dodsworth of Erie and Frank Kartesz II, of Harborcreek Township.

Will there be more indictments and charges?  I think so.  With over 200 properties involved, it only make sense that more people are to be charged.

Erie's 4th Starbucks could soon be a reality at West 12th and Pittsburgh Ave.   Even though Starbucks has announced that it will decrease the number of store openings in 2008.

School for sale

Iroquois School Board seeking a REALTOR

The former Wesleyville Elementary School on Willow St will soon be going up for sale.  They have decided to sell the building instead of leasing it.

This isn't the first school in the Erie area to be sold.  Some are now apartments or senior living facilities.

This could be very beneficial to the Weslyville area and put a building back on the tax roles.

Deutsche Bank settles suit

Deutsche bank has settled a lawsuit that could have gone on for quite a long time.  They still say that they are not responsible for the predatory lending practices.

Eloise Woodsbey struck a deal with Deutsche Bank that that is expected to prevent the bank from foreclosing on her property.

The mortgage fraud investigation continues in Erie.

Another Arrest - Probe Continues

Frank Kartesz II, President of K & D Enterprises has criminal charges filed against him by the U. S. Attorney's Office .   His business partner in K & D Enterprises is Robert Dodsworth, pleaded guilty to fraud charges in November.

Dodsworth's sentencing is scheduled for March 4th.

The probe is ongoing as unidentified co-conspirators continues to be mentioned.

Supposedly Kartesz and/or Dodsworth gave the victims money to put into their bank accounts.  This money was for the mortgage lender to verify that the buyers had money to purchase.  After the verification they gave the money back to Kartesz and/or Dodsworth.  I'm still confused as to how the victims thought that this was the norm.
